My Story

In memory of Stephen McLean

This month of May 2025 will always be held in memory of my late husband, Stephen. He died suddenly on Thursday 23rd May 2024 which was quite simply the worst day of my life.

After a series of respiratory issues, which began from a basic cough, he began to make some progress. A day later and Stephen passed away from a pulmonary embolism which was totally out of the blue and still doesn't make any sense.

The world seems empty and unbearable as my life and those of his family has been shattered and torn apart. I am heartbroken but still taking each day as it comes as i know he would be willing me on.

For all those that knew him, my husband Stephen was the most supportive, caring and motivated man you will ever meet. His smile was infectious and he was a unforgettable man both in presence, personality and distinctive features. He was the best father, son, brother and husband and words cannot explain the love I have for him and the loss I feel.

On Sunday 4th May I will be running the Birmingham 10K and on Saturday 17th May I will be hosting a Zumba event for 2 charities close to my heart, and they have been so instrumental in my survival over the last 9 months.

Widowed and Young (WAY) and The Firefighters Charity

Through these charities I have met fantastic people, widows and counsellors who have supported and improved my mental health no end. They provide support for all that need it through in person sessions, residentials, online catch ups and social events. I can honestly say I would not have got through this without them and their services have been a lifeline.

Exercise has always been my release, more so now than ever. It gives me a sense of inner peace. I have recently completed a couch to 5K, I love zumba and have recently started playing Netball again. So there you have it, I have decided to raise as much money as I can and to give back to these 2 amazing charities.

So wherever possible could you please spare some money to support Macca's month of May!

Love to all of you and my sincere thanks. Serica xx
